Transport Training Academy is a truck
driver training facility operating from the same location
as Transport Sales and Service, a medium sized trucking
company who operate in Ontario and primarily the eastern
half of the United States.
In designing our program we studied
many other training facilities and their programs, and
have combined the best elements and training methods
into our program. Our written text is based on the Ministry
of Education approved “Canadian Trucking Human
Resources Council” courseware. We have also listened
to the needs of employers, and our program addresses
their needs. We offer facilities which include a modern
classroom with the latest teaching aids, a 9 acre practice
yard (Range), a fueling facility, truck scale, above
and below ground docking, and repair shops. During classroom
training you will learn among other skills, proper log
book procedures, Bills of Lading and Pro Bills, defensive
driving, air brake systems, knowledge of the Highway
Traffic Act, height and weight laws for various jurisdictions,
map reading and trip planning to name a few. On the
Range, the student will learn the essential basic skills
in preparing their vehicle and loads before going on
the road. Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections, maneuvering,
backing with a variety of trailers, lift axle operation,
moving the fifth wheel, sliding the bogeys, docking
(above and below ground docks) and many others.
Our on road part of the program will
teach the student to handle various road and traffic
situations, always keeping SAFETY as
the most important factor. Our experienced Instructors
teach the student hands on, such skills as proper turns,
lane changing, merging with traffic, border crossing,
and reading differing road conditions. Additional skills
are also practiced including weight distribution, tarping,
and proper load security, scaling loads, safe fueling
practices, progressive shifting and others that make
up the required knowledge of a Professional Truck Driver.
Our equipment offers the student an opportunity to train
on a variety of tractors and trailers.
After attaining their AZ license, the
student does further training, handling real loads and
gaining valuable experience hauling a variety of materials
including, lumber, drywall and many others. This experience
is what puts our graduates at the head of the line for
recruiters.
To start our program, you will require:
- full class G license
- current drivers abstract
criminal record search from the OPP
